Tropical Cyclones

Cyclones happen in the Bay of Bengal and Arabian sea. Severe tropical cyclones happen in the western South Pacfic and Southeast Indian Ocean; and Tropical Cyclones happen in the Southwest Inian Ocean. http://http//www.wmo.int/pages/mediacentre/factsheet/tropicalcyclones.html WHY: Air heated by the sun rises very quickly, which creates areas of low pressure; as the warm air rises it contains a surpluss of moisture which condenses into massive thunder clouds. While all that is happening cool air swoops into to fill the viod that is left. Due to the tilt of the Earths axis the air is bent inwards and then spirals upward with greatr force. As the swirling winds rotate faster and faster they form a huge circle.
VARIABLES: The ocean water needs to be warm, at least 26 degrees celcius, heavy rainfall and sever thunderstorms. Forecasters also use data from Earth-orbiting satellites and other senors. But the best tool in determining track direction and speed, by forecasters, are the deepn layer mean flow or the average wind through the depth of the troposphere (the lowest layer of the atmosphere within which there is a steady drop in temperature with inreasing altitude and within which nearly all cloud formations occur and weather conditions manifest themselves). IMPACT: Shipwrecks are the most obivious, and probably sadest, impact that the storm system leaves in its trail but that is just one among many. Over the past 2 centuries, cyclones have accounted for about 1.9 million deaths worldwide. They usually leave a mass amount of water on land which leads to flooding and flooding leads to many more tradgies for people that were hit by the cyclone. HOW ARE WARNINGS ISSUED: As far as the US is concerned we have the most sophisticated tropical cyclone warning system. Once it has been identified, forcast advisories which detail the expected track and the probable strength of the cyclone are broadcast.
